Power of Thoughts

Hello readers,
This week, I had enjoyed myself and just got back from my Literature drama assessment which is part of my Mid-Year Exam. On April 22, 2013, I did not attend lesson because of Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation which was held at Singapore Conference Hall, home to the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.

As I have always mentioned 夏日骄阳 (The Brilliant Summer Sun) and 天乌乌 (Tian Wu Wu) which were the SYF pieces, the Greenridge Secondary School orchestra was able to played the songs perfectly with almost no mistakes and it was better than the time we played during the Awards' Day. Before we had to performed, we were brought to a waiting area at the foyer in order to use a room where you can tuned your instrument. Before my school entered the room, it was occupied by Jurong Secondary School. After JSS's turn was over, the students moved to the actual stage and so it was my school's turn.

At first, I thought I could stay in the room and watched others tuned their instrument, however those who have heavy instrument needed to leave the room earlier so that we could prepare setting up the stage. It was weird the moment when everyone was ready to performed and me and my senior have to moved quickly with our instrument (which was indeed heavy). The feeling of being on stage was not scary as what I thought and the judges were camouflaged together with the audience. One of the four judges was the original composer of 夏日骄阳.

When the performance was over, my members kept complaining about how the orchestra would not be able to get Certificate of Distinction / Gold. However, I do not believe in what they said and I mean yes, there might be a slight mistake(s) but overall I think we did played well. Even my guts told me that everything was fine and therefore, I knew there was a chance of getting Distinction. The SYF results was released yesterday and my guts was right, our orchestra had done well to get Certificate of Distinction! I was indeed proud of my members and also to be part of the GSS Chinese Orchestra family.

From this SYF, I realized that the power of thoughts does affect what you want to achieved and the more positive your thoughts are, the more you will definitely get what you want. If you are thinking negatively even before earning the thing you want, it is likely that you may or may not get what you have always wanted to achieve. So let positive thinking be powerful than the negative one! Looking forward to future CO performances and 2015 SYF Arts Presentation!

INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US

If you are a fan of Justice League or action battle game, I recommend you to try out this fantastic, awesome INJUSTICE: GODS AMONG US. The game consists of DC Comics' well-known characters such as Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash and The Joker.

Plot
In an alternate reality, the Joker has destroyed Metropolis and has tricked Superman into killing Lois Lane and his unborn child. In retaliation, Superman murders the Joker in front of Batman in a fit of rage and establishes a new world order. A battle ensues between the forces of Superman's Regime and those allied with Batman's Insurgency. The Insurgency discovers the Justice League's universe where the Joker's plan did not succeed and transports several of its super heroes to theirs in order to help them defeat the Regime.

What I enjoyed most about this game was the interesting upbeat battles of different characters. The battles were to show the ability of each character's strength and weakness which enable users to understand the heroes in depth. The game design, characters and story plot were so realistic that it was like the film, The Avengers (2012). However, there is a question which kept pounding me: "What are the monsters for in the backdrop?". Actually, I don't think the monsters in the backdrop are necessary. The funniest and idiotic moment was when Superman said to Batman that he had lost Lois Lane, his unborn child and his best friend and believed there is a need to established new world order. If he just made a new world order for this reason, shouldn't Batman had done this earlier since he lost his parents to a crime at the age of eight (he was still young, I know)? This is the reason why throughout the whole game, I think Insurgency Batman was a lot more smarter than Regime Superman.

Although there may be a flaw in this game, I still managed to enjoy for nearly one to three hours. Amazing DC Comics game I ever seen! It is available on XBOX and Apple Store.

Movie review: Oblivion

WARNING: THIS REVIEW INCLUDES SOME SPOILERS.

Earth is a planet and home where living things breathe, eat and sleep. However in this film, Oblivion, Earth is already 'dead' and there are only two humans, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) and Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) who were working for Sally (Melissa Leo) (a robot-like 'person' who 'raised' them).

Oblivion is a film which pays a homage to 1970s science fiction (according to the director, Joseph Kosinski) and it was definitely a great one. Story plot was written in a way that requires you to pay attention throughout the whole cinema experience and would be hard to understand if you are interrupted or not paying attention. Not much jokes were created or used in this film and hardly any laughter, except maybe the wobbling mini figurine attached to the plane which Jack kept talking to it while on his mission and an excerpt of a poem (which I will not mentioned) was used in a dialogue. Throughout the cinema for nearly two hours, there were not much reaction from audience (probably because they may not understand the film or just for Tom Cruise).

What I like about the film is the vintage, "Instagram-like" effects of Sony's newly developed camera, CineAlta F65 because they represented and convey many emotions for different scenes. It allows audience to differentiate which scene is showing the present or past easily. Moving on to the cast, there are not many actors and actresses used in this film (although there are occasional appearance or cameos).

To summarized everything, I really did enjoyed Oblivion. There are so many words to describe or expressed how much I enjoyed and besides the interesting storyline, I like the CGI and the advanced technology used in this film. If you are someone who is looking for a science fiction film to watch during the April period, I suggest you take some time to watch this film.
