September holidays + 2 short movie reviews

What's up, readers!

Today is the last day of my September holidays and are you ready for school, Singaporeans? To me, I don't think so because time goes by quickly and this whole week I have been going to school for remedial and CCA. I had Maths remedial and CCA sectional practice on Monday, Physics remedial on Tuesday, Maths and Mother Tongue remedial on Wednesday, Mother Tongue remedial regarding composition on Thursday and CCA combined practice on Friday.

September holidays is the time where students do their homework, revision and play. Instead of revision, students have to go back to school and have remedial or CCA. By the time we reached home, no one has the mood to study or finish homework at all, unless if you are a serious, hardworking, diligent student. My whole holidays have been spazzing on Chinese–South Korean 12 members group, EXO and watching movies through phone.

The recent film that I have watched was The World's End starring Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and Martin Freeman. The film was about how the group of five back in their teenage days where they had a quest to drink all 12 pubs including The World's End which was their last stop. However, the group did not managed to finish the quest due to drunkenness. Years later, Simon Pegg as Gary King wanted to reunite the members and finished the quest where they started. During this period, the four members have their own job, house, car and family. As the members reunited and continue their 12 pubs quest, a strange phenomenon happened and they decided to teamwork in completing the quest before anyone reached the last stop. I had a great laugh while watching this film because most of stunts were hilarious, similar to Jackie Chan's and the actors were able to hold the film till the end. Though Simon Pegg is a comedian who brings in dirty jokes, he was a brilliant lead. Although there isn't really much storyline except alien invasion and a quest to The World's End, the overall of this film was not dull. Therefore, on a scale of 5 stars, I would give 3.5 out of 5 stars.

Another film that I have watched was The Bling Ring. The film is based on true event of the real Bling Ring who invaded high–profile celebrities' house and took their jewelries and other belongings from 2008 to 2009. With newbie cast and the well known Emma Watson, the film did not leave a lasting impression until the ending. The story was too slow paced and boring, especially if you have read the case of The Bling Ring, then I see no point of you trying to watch this film. Without Emma Watson featuring as Nicki, the audience would probably dozed off while the film is on. With a boring, slow paced and uninteresting scenes, I would rate this film 2 out of 5 stars.

I shall stop here and I hope everyone has a good weekend! For Singaporeans, it's time to "chiong" your homework and get started with revision since End-Of-Year examinations are coming! Have a great, wet Sunday!

Movie review: Iron Man 3

This review contains some spoilers.

Hello readers,
I managed to watch Iron Man 3 yesterday since the DVD has just arrived this week in Singapore. It has been a year since I last watched The Avengers and I was pleased with it. Iron Man 3 is the second film that I have watched from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Let's move on to the review of Iron Man 3, shall we? The film took place a year after The Avengers and shows the rise and fall of Tony Stark/Iron Man. Back in 1999, Stark was at a New Years Eve party in Switzerland with Maya, inventor of Extremis (an experimental regenerative treatment which allow people to recover from crippling injuries) and as an audience, we can see another scientist, Aldrich Killian who somehow admired Stark and wanted him to join AIM (Advanced Idea Mechanics). However, Stark humiliated Killian by letting him wait at the rooftop like a fool.

Back to 13 years later, Stark has been experiencing panic attack after the New York alien invasion and the Mandarin has been planting strings of bombings in the United States of America, leaving The intelligence bewildered due to lack of evidence. I have to say that this is a great movie with many jokes and downfall of Tony Stark. It also shows how Stark was able to survived without a 'real' suit since he was wearing a prototype one which was not able to functioned properly. I love the moment when Tony worked with a boy, Harley who seems to lived alone (his mother went out to 7-11 and father won a lottery, I guess... six years ago). Harley was a helpful boy and despite his age, he was able to help Stark in his sudden panic attack twice.

So far, Iron Man 3 is a great movie with various suits army, Dora The Explorer watch and sexy Pepper Polts at the ending. This film is recommended if you want a family action film, an Iron Man supporter or Marvel comic lover. I can tell you that this film does not disappoint you if you watched from the start to the end.

Rating: 4/5

P.S. There is a post-credits scene where Mark Ruffalo reprised his role as Bruce Banner.
