Christmas

Hello readers,
Today is the day where you shared and received love from the people around you. It is time for giving presents if you have or maybe, some good gatherings to celebrate this wonderful season of the year.

Unlike last year, this year is simply ordinary. I had cordyceps herbal chicken soup for lunch and Korean mild spicy ramen with smoked salmon, veggies and salad for dinner. I remembered having dinner at Jack's Place and it is still memorable.

Recently, I have been quite depressed. I don't know what has been bothering me and I can tell you it has been bugging me since October. Even when before my school event, Spectrum VIII took off, I am still bothered on why am I feeling the blues. I hate the fact I am disrespecting my parents, especially how my older sister is always mocking me. I just hate the fact of watching stuff alone and not sharing what I liked.

I have been thankful for my parents who has gave me support in school and my hobbies. Especially since I have been constantly putting in my best in studies, it is time I have to do something before GCE 'N' Levels. My aim is to get below 9 points or equal to, and enter Polytechnic Foundation Programme where I want to study Diploma in Information Technology at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I have always wanted to enter Ngee Ann Polytechnic because the courses they have, plus I can directly take bus no. 75 or 184 at my house's bus stop to there.

I heard there is a NP's Open House from January 8-10, 2015, so I can't wait to visit the campus itself and explore different faculties. I am also interested in exploring Singapore Polytechnic too! Hopefully, I can stop my laziness and start seizing my days before the Prelims next year.

For my readers out there, I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Movie Review: The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies

THERE ARE SOME SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW.

Hello readers,
I will be writing a review on this third and final sequel of The Hobbit, titled as The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies. Some people may also know this sequel as The Hobbit: There And Back Again. The film starred once again Martin Freeman as lovable Bilbo Baggins, his other adventurer pack and prominence creatures such as Elves, Smaug the dragon, Ogres (don't how to spell or I guess how the creatures looked) and Sauron the Necromancer.

For The Hobbit: Battle of The Five Armies, the film continues from the previous sequel where Smaug wanted to create terror in the town of Dale. Unforunately, I never knew this dragon would be killed off easily at the start of the film. Soon, the film concentrates on Thorin, who soon has an eye on his gold and the shiny, "rainbowy" jewel. The Hobbit: Battle of The Five Armies does not have much storyline, except there were cool fighting scenes. I mean synchronizing fighting tactics and "flipping".

Although the battle was an epic one, it was sad to see some characters who died on the spot, especially Thorin, since he fought to his last with the Ogre leader who was so invincible that he never died from being in the frozen water. Throughout the three films of the trilogy, Bilbo does not resolved to violence and instead, uses his knowledge and wisdom to help counter attack. The film has a shorter duration than the two previous films, which is good since most people can't sit for long in the cinema.

From 2012 to 2014, The Hobbit trilogy was indeed enjoyable and this new sequel was a good one to conclude the journey of the Hobbit. If you haven't watch this latest sequel, I reccomend that you grab a ticket, sit back and enjoy the fresh battles between the five armies!

Ratings: 6.5/10

P.S. The film may be worth it if you watched the beautiful sketches of The Hobbit at the ending credits and also enjoy the song by Billy Boyd.

Movie Review: Kill Your Darlings

Hello readers,

I just got back from my trip to Perth, Western Australia. During the trip, I managed to buy Kill Your Darlings, which is unavailable in Singapore due to its sensitive content. The film starred Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan.

Kill Your Darlings is a 2013 film loosely based on the Beats poets including mainly Allen Ginsberg and also the controversial murder of David Kammerer by Lucien Carr. The reason why I said it is loosely based instead of true story is because some parts of the account was dramatized, including the murder of David Kammerer.

The film was beautifully crafted with fine writing and also metaphors used to expressed the Beats' world. Daniel Radcliffe as Allen Ginsberg, was definitely enjoyable to watched. To be honest, I never doubt his acting since he did well in Woman In Black two years ago. For Dane DeHaan as controversial Lucien Carr, again I am not surprised by how he is able to play such "James Dean-like" character, since I saw him played as Andrew in Chronicle.

Kill Your Darlings may just be about exploring sexuality, however the film also shows how you can make a revolution and defy all rules. Beats poets are rebels who believe in their own beliefs and topics which has been viewed as controversial during that time (1940s). You see, with many films like this, you can explore the trends during a certain period, whether it is in 21st century or 19th century.

With the conclusion to the review, Kill Your Darlings is a film worth watching if you are really into the world of controversy and madness.

TV Series Review: Fargo (2014)

Hello readers,
I am going to write a review on FX television series, Fargo. I know I am way late on this series since it aired in April and concluded its first season somewhere in June (if I am not wrong). Fargo is somehow a remake of 1990s film of the same name. The series starred prominence actors, Colin Hanks, Billy Bob Thornton, Martin Freeman, and some unknown cast.

Fargo is a strange, dark comedy television series about a man, Lester (Freeman) who met an unknown fellow, Lorne (Billy Bob Thornton) and has since been influenced with his violence and malice. Meanwhile, the police officers are trying to solve the cases linked to these two guys. In Season One, the story was set in 2006 instead of 2014.

While this series has some suspense, its storyline is promising including Martin Freeman's commonly known "awkwardness" appearance and Billy Bob Thornton's mysterious character, Lorne. This series is like another production of Hitchcock, but the modern take of suspense. I, myself never thought the storyline will be intriguing and if I had completed the first season, I wouldn't mind checking out the upcoming Season Two next year. The first episode was a great introduction between the two lead characters, especially how Lester "ain't man enough".

If you are someone who loves Hitchcock-style, slow moving drama, something suspenseful or maybe stupidity to watch during the winter season, I would recommend you watching Fargo. It is a series which will not disappoint you.

P.S. I like the main theme music.
