Common Test 1

Hello readers,
It has been a week since I updated this blog.

Time have passed by and on Monday and school has never failed in giving me homework and class tests almost everyday till I realised that examinations fall on February 24 to 28. I have been stressed up by not only studies but my CCA. Most of the students in other CCAs have stand down in order to focus on examinations but for Chinese Orchestra, there was never a break.

Getting new music scores and having an instructor who can't come on Wednesday and sometimes Monday, it is hard for me to catch up, especially when my senior is stepping down in April this year due to the upcoming GCE 'O' Level Examinations and I have a new junior. I always asked myself is this my capability or not? Have I go beyond my borders? I have no idea.

I just hoped there is at least a break for me after examinations and CCA...

Restaurant review: Din Tai Fung @ JEM

Running out of food choices? No where to go? Or maybe a Chinese cuisine to satisfy your appetite? A Chinese-oriented cuisine restaurant like Din Tai Fung can helped you with that!

Din Tai Fung is a Chinese-oriented restaurant based in Taiwan and is internationally known for its 小笼包 (soup dumplings). Besides the famous soup dumplings, the restaurant is also known for its chicken soup, seaweed, bean sprouts and mung bean noodle. Din Tai Fung has achieved its reputation over the years which included famous celebrities like Tom Cruise who visited the restaurant in the originated country and mastered the making of soup dumplings.

I visited the reputable restaurant at the shopping mall, JEM which is located in Jurong East, Singapore. I recommend you to take a train ride to Jurong East MRT station as the area is mostly congested with cars trying to enter JEM, JCube and the newest shopping mall, Westgate. After arriving at the restaurant, I got my queue number and waited for at least half an hour due to its popularity among the locals. While waiting for my queue number to be shown on a small tablet screen, I decided to look into the glass where you can see the chefs preparing the famous 小笼包. The art of making soup dumplings was fascinating and it got me excited to try out one.

After my queue number appeared on the small tablet screen, the server brought me to my table. I was amazed by how my hot, Chinese tea was prepared in advance since I managed to filled in my orders on a clipboard while waiting. I ordered 阳春面 (yang chun noodles), 元盅鸡汤 (steamed chicken soup) and not to forget, 小笼包.

After waiting for five to ten minutes, my chicken soup had arrived. According to the restaurant's website, the chefs used only specially selected premium fresh chicken and it is carefully simmered over the span of six hours. I tasted the chicken soup after it arrived. I love how the soup tasted as there is no salt, no MSG and all you can taste in your mouth is the freshness of the pure chicken. It is so pure that you feel the urge to order one more bowl.

Followed by 阳春面 and 小笼包, I am satisfied after trying all of these foods. The noodles has a smooth texture and the moment you eat it, it feels like heaven, so does the soup and the vegetables. It is a simple noodle soup, yet it tasted again pure and tasty. The soup dumplings is even better. It contained minced pork wrapped in a nice small, silky dough skin with a flowery-like folds. The best part of the soup dumplings was how the minced pork in my mouth turned into a 'soup' as if it melted. This is definitely recommended and also worth it to try when you visit the restaurant.

Overall of my restaurant's experience was excellent. The atmosphere and the settings were comfortable and not restricted. Din Tai Fung is a great place for gathering and family outing. The problem is the queue where you have to wait for your number and also Jurong East is not convenient for me since I don't live in that area. However, you should stop by this restaurant and give it a try!
