Movie review: Tinker, Sailor, Soldier, Spy

"Tinker, Sailor, Soldier, Poor Man"

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a British spy film starring Gary Oldman as George Smiley. To me, I have always been a fan of spy films from United Kingdom which mostly revolved around MI6 but however this film is different from the films that I usually watched from the UK. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a film concerning about a mole from Karla, working "at the top of the Circus" and this theory was created by Control (John Hurt). In order to find out the mole, Smiley was forced out of semi-retirement and chose a few men including Peter Guillam (Benedict Cumberbatch) to help out in the investigation.

What this film amazed me was that there were not much fight scenes. Most of the time, the characters uses words, codes and intelligence to get information. I loved how dark this film was and the use of gay couples (you would know if you watched the film). However, I dislike how slow the film was at the starting. I admit that I watched this film twice because I could not get the whole storyline when I first watched but once I watched again, this film now totally makes sense. This film is specially targeted on mature audience (mostly adults) and if you are not one of them, then I suggest that you do not touched this film.

Overall of Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy was not too bad, though I watched twice. The film also showed how secret agent's life was back in the Cold War in the 1970s. I recommend this film for those who prefer "brainy films" and if you want action, then I suggest that this film isn't for you.

Movie review: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Hello readers,
Yesterday I watched The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey with my family and before I start reviewing on this film, I have to admit that I did not watch Lord of the Ring trilogy and this is the first film that I ever watched from this trilogy/The Hobbit trilogy.

My first impression of the film was that it might be boring but I was proven wrong. With the unknown cast of the film, except Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman, Sherlock) and Gandalf (Ian McKellen, X-Men), I was impressed with all of the characters. They were always in a team and I think this was the first film that I ever watched with a team that had a good leader, Thorin who took the responsibility of stepping up first to the villains. I like how Martin Freeman portrayed Bilbo Baggins. I did not see him as John Watson (that was how I knew him), instead there was this 'Bilbo Baggins' face. However, sometimes he gave an expression which reminded me of a fan-made video created by someone on Youtube with the use of the hedgehog commercial dialogue.

I loved how the story of this film flows like a storybook. It has a great narration and pace which makes the audience more engaged into the plot. I also loved the locations used and the CGI buildings in this film. They were realistic and interesting. The fighting scenes were exciting and cute.

Overall of the film was amazing and I think I sat for the whole film, holding my bladder because the fighting scenes were exciting. I couldn't wait to watch The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug which will releases on December 13, 2013. Love fantasy, mythology creatures? This film is definitely recommended!

Movie review: The Wolverine

WARNING: THERE ARE SOME SPOILERS

The last X-Men film that I watched was X-Men Origins: Wolverine and that was four years ago. This year, Wolverine is back with another film which you might called it a sequel.

The Wolverine is about during Japanese Occupation/in the past, Logan/Wolverine saved a Japanese soldier, Yashida from a nuclear bomb. When the film started, I thought I was watching a documentary. Yashida, an old man, was about to passed away and he wanted to see Logan. As the story progresses, you may be curious and also wondering what is going on. The story was better than the previous Wolverine film, although I dislike the idea of him losing his healing power. With Wolverine losing power, this made him look weak (I know it was a way to continue the story) and also I do not see the importance of having Jean Grey in the film. She was a distractor for Logan since he loved her. I wondered why not Jean disturbed Cyclops who was in paradise like her.

I would like to mentioned Rila Fukushima as Yukio because I personally preferred her over Tao Okamoto who played Mariko. She looked tough for a female and useful than Mariko who acted like a princess and a distractor like Jean Grey. Yashida was a stupid ass who got obsessed with Wolverine just because he could live forever. Excuse me, what is the point of having to live forever? Seriously, after taking Logan/Wolverine's power, he still wanted more which I find it insane.

Although The Wolverine is an entertaining film, it is a movie which I probably would not watched again and some of the questions going on in my head, they were never answered. If you are a X-Men series or Wolverine fan, be prepared to get 50% disappointed and 50% excitement.

P.S. Don't leave the theater after the film ended because there is a post-credits conclusion scene. ;-)

Movie review: Red 2

WARNING: THERE ARE SOME SPOILERS HERE.

Hello readers,
As I have promised myself, I did went to watched Red 2. Since I did not went to watched Red (2010), I will not do a comparison but I will treat Red 2 as a solo film itself.

The film is very, very entertaining and it made the audience stay or feel alive. I can ensure you that this film will definitely 'tickles' you because of its comedic yet sarcastic acts. To me, Red 2 is the sexiest, badass and 'delicious' spy action film I have ever seen. Some of the cast were really charming, especially I could not help but to say that Helen Mirren was the sexiest MI6 spy (I know she is not young) I have seen. The film managed to give a twist and suspense with additional touch of comedic acts. I love the moment when Lee Byung Hun swerved the car and Mirren took our her guns and started shooting at the cars. After shooting, Lee and Mirren's characters continued to drive on while the enemy's car was overturned dramatically. Watching that particular scene reminded me of the filming technique used in Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood.

I can swear that I did not expect Anthony Hopkins to play as the villain who was locked up at a special cell for thirty-two years. His performance as Edward Bailey was impressive. The chemistry between each cast were excellent indeed and without the chemistry, I do not think that the film would be interesting.

With many comedic and tough acts, Red 2 sure knows how to balanced everything off. Like watching action film that is sexy, tough and with comedy touch? Be sure to catch this film!
